Do you do any jobs outside of Edmonton?

Yes, particularly in and around the surrounding satellite communities such as St. Albert and Sherwood Park. We have also sent crews throughout northern and southern Alberta and into British Columbia, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories. If a client is willing to cover travel and accommodations costs and we can work it into our schedule, we have no problem doing out of town work.

For whom have you performed out of city contracts?

We are one of Canada Safeway's preferred wiring companies and have travelled to northern BC and Alberta and into Saskatchewan for them. We are also currently the national administrative contact for Fountain Tire's cross-Canada revamping of network cabling at their individual stores. Fibertel does the work in the central Alberta locations and arranges for industry partners to perform work from British Columbia through Ontario.

Services Related FAQs

If I call you up, can you help me troubleshoot my problem over the phone?

We will always try to help our existing clients as much as possible without going out on site and charging for a service call. That said, however, there are just certain things that we do as a business that we have to charge for in order to make a living. If you are not a current client, we will do our best to assist you in any way that we can, but you have to realize that without being able to see your problem, it is sometimes difficult for us to make a good recommendation.

What exact type of cabling service do you provide?

Voice (i.e., telephone), data (i.e., computer network) and video (i.e., TV or surveillance). We use a variety of types of cabling including fiber and are up to date with respect to cabling standards, with category 5e being the current most popular choice (still, despite all the reasons to go with 6 and 6e). We don't install basic electrical cabling but do work with several electrical firms to whom we would be able to provide a referral.

The person who installed our network wiring is no longer with the company and we can't tell what's wrong with some of the lines. Do you do any independent cable testing?

Yes we do. It's our policy to test and provide a report for each run on all of our cable installation jobs and we can do the same for pre-existing installations.

Miscellaneous FAQs

Are you affiliated with any other companies by the same or similar names?

We've had email enquiring about "our offices" in Argentina and about callback services originating from the U.S., but the short answer is "no", we are a self-contained business local to Edmonton. We also have nothing to do with the "Fibre Link" service that used to be offered by Videotron/Videon/Shaw (but has since been sold to another entity).

What's the best way to get a quote from you?

For the quickest response, call us directly. Emails are often not "seen" or processed as quickly as voice messages.

Career Opportunity FAQs

What sort of background do you require for new employees and are you hiring at present?

Individuals interested in technician positions must have previously related experience in installing cable and/or key telephone systems. Training from a recognized technical college is definitely an asset, but we rarely hire individuals straight out of school. In terms of recruitment, we are not currently looking to add to our personnel. (Whenever we do require temporary or permanent help, we post our requirements to the national Job Bank at www.jobbank.gc.ca.)

Please note that Fibertel's cable technician positions are not computer or network related, so having extensive computer experience is not required nor does it give you an edge. Our cable technicians face physically demanding working conditions, requiring them to demonstrate manual dexterity and a certain amount of comfort in being atop ladders. The vast majority of their time is spent at a client's site; typically, the closest they get to a computer is when they wire them up for a customer.

What is the best way to submit a resume to you?

Individuals interested in being considered for employment should email or mail their resumes to our office. Please do not fax them. Also, due to the number of unsolicited inquiries that we get, it is not our policy to acknowledge each one unless an email address is provided. We also ask that you make it easier for us to review your resume by making it part of the body of your email. If this is not possible, at the very least, ensure that an attached resume is identified appropriately with your name. You can imagine how difficult it is to wade through a folder full of RESUME.DOC, RESUME1.DOC, RESUME2.DOC, etc., files belonging to virtually everyone who has ever contacted us.
